Unveiling politics in the periphery

This book, from the Urban Studies Collection, discusses the notion of politics based on stories from the periphery of São Paulo. Following the assumption that social movements have always fought for political status, this publication revisits the trajectory of popular subjects from the turn of the 1980s to the present day. In the timeline, we go through the construction and dismantling of the popular field, which, inserting rights and citizenship as key notions for thinking about a democratic horizon, removed poverty from the condition of “natural landscape” and inserted new subjects in the public scene.
